Walk description

From Earl Sterndale we make our way to the trig point on High Wheeldon which offers magnificent views of Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill. After descending High Wheeldon, we take well defined paths to Hollingsclough, stopping off at the Honesty Shop for some light retail therapy. We then circumvent Hollins Hill to begin the ascent of Chrome Hill taking lunch at the summit. Chrome Hill is the easier of the two hills and only requires light scrambling on a few short sections.

After descending Chrome Hill, we will scramble over Parkhouse Hill. This is significantly harder and those who do not want to climb it can walk around its base. We then return to Earl Sterndale passing over Hitter Hill.

This is an iconic peak district walk. It includes three steep hills, two of which are Grade 1 scrambles. If weather or ground conditions are unsuitable, an alternative 10-mile route will be taken from Earl Sterndale to Pilsbury Castle Hills returning via Longnor.

This walk is not suitable for dogs.
