Walk description

From the car park, we will across the valley below Derwent Dam before steadily climbing to Shake Holes then descending through Abbey Bank to the eastern access road. This route offers fabulous views and different perspectives of the upper Derwent and Howden reservoirs. We then follow the access road to Slippery Stones, and after a short rest, climb to Howden Edge taking lunch at the Margery Hill Trig Point. After lunch we will walk along Howden Edge, descending to Howden Dam, then back to the car park along the eastern access road.

This route includes two short but steep climbs, with remaining ground relatively flat and easy descents. Road surfaces are well maintained, but moorland is exposed and may be boggy depending on weather conditions.
