Winscar Reservoir, Dunford Bridge, Barnsley, South Yorkshire
Date: Thursday, 2nd May 2019
Start time: 10:45
Grade: Easy / Moderate
Distance: 5.5 miles
Walk description

The walk starts from the Trans Pennine Trail car park in Dunford Bridge, and continues up Windle Edge turning right to walk around the edges of Winscar and Harden reservoirs before heading up past the disused Snittlegate Quarry. Crossing ‘Bare Bones Road’ we proceed down the track to join Dunford Road for the return to Winscar Reservoir finally descending the steep path to the car park via ‘Don View’ which is situated next to the eastern entrance of the old Woodhead Railway Tunnel.

We grade this walk as easy / moderate as there is only a limited amount of ascending and ‘bracken bashing’ on narrow overgrown paths.

Dunford Bridge is located about 16 miles due west of Chapeltown. Journey time by car is around 25 mins. Approximately 20 miles and 40 minutes from the centre of Sheffield.

The walk is approximately 5.5 miles and should take around 3 hours including a stop for lunch.
