View of Cannon Hall Country Park
Cannon Hall Country Park, Cawthorne, South Yorkshire
Date: Thursday, 6th July 2023
Start time: 10:30
Grade: Moderate
Distance: 7.5 miles
Walk description

We leave The Spencer Arms, walking beside the village allotments, and over open fields to begin a steady ascent through the woodlands of Cawthorne Park to reach High Hoyland. We use a woodland path to skirt the village, continuing through farmland and woods and along Hollin House Lane to Deffer Wood, where we plan to have our lunch break. Emerging from Deffer Wood we enter rolling countryside on our way to Cannon Hall Country Park. We walk beside the lake where we may see Canada goslings. We return via Cawthorne Cricket Club to the village for an optional debrief in The Spencer Arms.

This is a moderate walk of approximately 7.5 miles, along well-defined paths (although in several places they are a little overgrown!) and bridleways, with short sections of minor road walking. It will take around 3.5 hours plus lunch stop. There are a number of stiles and far-reaching countryside views throughout.
