From the centre of Wortley Village, the walk starts off in the direction of Wortley Top Forge then crosses the river Don before heading up Well Hill towards Green Moor then turning back at Ivy Cottage alongside the woods, re-crossing the River Don via the bridge or stepping stones at Cherry Tree Cottages. We then join the main Trans Pennine Trail at Finkle Street Lane before turning right past the old Wortley station building and riding stables. We head up the main track through to the northern end of Wharncliffe Woods and the top of Wharncliffe Moor before turning back past Moor End Farm, passing under the A616 to re-join Finkle Street Lane and return via Wortley Rugby club. Finally finishing the walk with a drink in the Wortley Arms pub.
The walk is around 6 miles in length and should take around 3 hours including a short stop for refreshments. It is recommended for anyone looking for a fairly challenging but interesting Thursday walk.
