Walk description

The walk sets off from Wortley Village along the Trans Pennine Trail – Timberland Trail before turning left along fields and woods to Hermit Hill. From there we proceed again across fields to the small village of Crane Moor before steadily climbing the hill to Wortley golf club clubhouse then crossing Hermit Hill Lane, through a small wood to Wortley Village and the Wortley Arms.

The walk is approx. 6 miles and should take around 3 hours including a stop for lunch. It is rated moderate mainly on paths around fields and through woods. However there is some climbing of hills involved particularly towards the end of the walk. Additionally, there are in excess of 15 stiles to negotiate. Overall It’s a pleasant mix of fields, woodlands and open countryside with very little road walking.
