This walk starts from The Toss o’ Coin pub car park at Snowgate Head. The first ¼ mile of the route is uphill for a modest height gain of about 200 feet, to quickly gain panoramic views northwards, of West Yorkshire.
The route then follows established wide tracks along the hill contour, before we descend around Hullock Bank, for more superb views westward towards Holme Moss. After a short stretch of minor road walking, we descend down and around Cheesegate Nab, before we pass another Pike Lowe! We then retrace our steps along Hirst Lane to Gate Foot for a downhill finish to the pub.
Most of this walk is at an altitude of 1000 feet above sea level, but after the initial climb the ascents are short and gradual. The route follows grassy, and rocky tracks with short stretches of minor road walking. The reward is the superb scenery!
This is a moderate walk of 5 miles and will take 2.5 – 3 hours, with stops.
