View of Shutlingsloe from Shining Tor
Shutlingsloe from Shining Tor, Macclesfield, Cheshire
Date: Sunday, 2nd June 2019
Start time: 10:30
Grade: Strenuous
Distance: 11.0 miles
Walk description

An 11 miles strenuous walk in the wonderful Macclesfield Forest and farmland area with spectacular views throughout. Many ups and downs on route, but well worth the effort and nothing too difficult. Shutlingsloe is the second highest peak in Cheshire.

The walk is mainly on well-defined paths and tracks with a little quiet road walking north from Wildboarclough. There are two particularly steep short downhill footpaths – the first near to the start of the walk after Tegg’s Nose viewpoint, and the second leaving the summit of Shutlingsloe towards Wildboarclough. The footpaths in this area are very well maintained and managed with mainly ‘kissing gates’ at field boundaries, but there are a couple of high stiles to negotiate on route. Lunch will be taken at the picnic site at Clough House, north of Wildboarclough.
