Walk description

We’ll walk along the riverside path through Beeley Wood and then follow the old miners’ path and steps on a short climb up to the Rocher Bridge over the railway line. From here we will cross farmland up to Lower Hurst, down to Royds Row and then up to Birley Edge which we will follow along the skyline to Birley Stone with extensive views over Oughtibridge and the River Don valley. We will continue along the Edge passing above Hunter House Farm and maintain the high ground through Prior Royd until dropping down onto farmland and passing Hollow Farm. Here we enter onto the edge of Wharncliffe Chase, following tracks eventually reaching the TV mast near Hobb Stones and then dropping down on tracks through Wharncliffe Wood and back to our starting point.

A walk of 9 miles in 4½ hours.
