Walk description

We walk uphill from the Mustard Pot car park, passing the 14th century St James’ Church, and continue with a steady climb to enjoy extensive views across the valley. We proceed into woodland and have a short steep ascent before the path levels out and descends, with views of Midhope Reservoir, into open countryside. We cross the River Porter (Little Don) and join the disused railway line, built in the late 19th century during the construction of Langsett Reservoir, continuing through Sheephouse Wood and along the Northern side of Underbank Reservoir. We then have a scenic walk across Underbank Reservoir dam wall before following the path alongside the South side of the reservoir to return to the village of Midhopestones.

It is on well-defined paths beside reservoirs, through open countryside and woodland, and along a disused railway track. There are excellent views along the way.
