Walk description
Setting off on field paths we soon meet and cross over the Monsal Trail, continuing on field paths and eventually entering Ashford in the Water. We leave the village via the old disused road. Crossing the river Wye via two old stone bridges, we follow the river until reaching the busy A6. There is a short road walk (pavement) which takes us into the centre of Bakewell, where we’ll stop for lunchbreak. We leave Bakewell and take a steady climb by track until reaching fields and Cracknowl Wood. More field paths take us into Great Longstone and then to the return.
The conditions underfoot were very muddy the day we reccied, so sticks/gaiters are advisable.
