Walk description

We start off from Dovestone on the Oldham Way towards Mossley. Leaving the Oldham Way we make our way through Grasscroft to a short but stiff acscent to Wharmton Mast. Descending into Greenfield we walk for a short distance through the town before we take on the longest and stiffest ascent to the war memorial. After leaving the memorial we rejoin the Oldham Way for its descent back to the start.

This is a walk of 9.8 miles and will take 5.5 hours including a lunch stop. It’s an undulating walk, including a particularly stiff climb to Saddleworth War Memorial from Greenfield. The views are vast throughout and we can see most parts of the walk from different locations en route. Lunch location will depend on progress made on the day. The paths are well defined throughout, some are muddy and slippy at time writing. There is also a little road walking in places.
