Walk description

From Station Road, Deepcar, we follow part of the Little Don river to Fox Valley retail park. After steadily ascending a steep section to Hunshelf Bank, we cross the Barnsley boundary and an area of five quarries. (Stone from Green Moor Delf was used to pave outside the Houses of Parliament, Sheffield City Hall and the Clock Tower War Memorial in Stocksbridge). After a break to absorb the views at the picturesque village of Green Moor, we’ll take a glimpse of Wortley Top Forge. Built in 1639, it’s the oldest surviving heavy iron forge in the world. From there, we cross Finkle Street and head over Warncliffe Crags and back to Deepcar.
