It is an undulating walk, passing along short stretches of the Kirklees Way and the Barnsley Boundary Walk. We start at Hade Edge, passing through fields and along an old drover’s road to Crow Hill, descending through the hamlet of Barnside, before a steep ascent of Cheese Gate Nab for views of the Holme Valley. We then explore the “plateau”, along quiet lanes for about a mile, before we follow a contour track with extensive views of West Yorkshire.
The track continues to contour around the hillside to Hullock Bank for a wonderful panorama of West Yorkshire to the north and Holme Moss and Black Hill to the west. Lunch will be taken at one of the viewpoints depending on weather conditions.
From here we descend fairly steeply through fields to Hepworth village, before following the Kirklees Way, through a wooded valley, back to Hade Edge.
This is a walk of 10.5 miles and will take about 5.5 hours with a lunch break.
