Starting from the Parish Hall car park we cross the recreation ground, continuing through fields and woodland to enter the Anston Woods gorge which, with its shallow caves, rock faces and gnarled tree roots, has been described as reminiscent of the Brazilian rainforests.
Walking through meadows and woodland, and crossing Anston Brook to reach the A57 road, we continue towards Lindrick Golf Course. We walk along the edge of the fairway into woodland, and over farmland to reach the Chesterfield Canal, which leads us to the ascent into South Anston village. We pass St. James’s Church and recross the A57 to return to the start of the walk.
We will have an optional debrief at a local hostelry to be decided on the day.
This is a 7.5 mile easy / moderate walk on field and woodland paths, farmland and canal towpath. It will take approximately 3.5 hours plus lunch stop. There are a couple of short uphill sections, and a long gradual ascent towards the end of the walk, but otherwise it is relatively easy walking throughout.
