Date: Sunday, 7th July 2024
Start time: 09:30
Grade: Strenuous
Distance: 10.5 miles
Walk description
From the A635 layby, we ascend the paved Pennine Way up to the trig point on Black Hill (Soldier’s Lump).
From there, we follow a series of compass bearings and bog-hop down the undefined old Pennine Way over Wessenden Head Moor. After lunch, we cross the A635 and walk north on a clear moorland path over White Moss to Black Moss Reservoir where you can have a quick paddle in the waterfall pool. A clear track of the Pennine Way then leads back to the cars.
This is an exhilarating walk, and not as black and white as it sounds. Poles useful but not essential.
