We start from the car park in Rosehill Victoria Park, passing a rather splendid Beech tree to reach Wentworth Road. Crossing the road we take the path opposite into the woods and down into Warren Vale Nature Reserve, formerly the site of Rawmarsh Colliery’s Victoria Pit.
Following paths that rise up to open grassland and pass into Birch Wood to find a sculptured footbridge. Crossing the bridge we ascend alongside a field before crossing into Blackamoor Road. We turn left into a field and follow paths to Abdy Lane and enter Wath Wood. Following the path alongside Wath Golf Club, we climb a series of paths to reach the spine of Roman Ridge. Passing through a barrier we enter an enclosed path leading to the A633.
After approximately 100 metres we turn right into Pottery Ponds, where we can check out the Waterloo pottery kiln and also have lunch. After lunch we take the path crossing the B6092 following the path to cross the A633 and enter Creighton Woods Nature Reserve. Leaving the reserve we follow a number of paths through woods and fields before reaching Kilnhurst Road and re-entering Victoria Park.
This is a moderate walk of approximately 5 miles taking about 3 hours including lunch break.
