Walk description

This is a Dales’ day. Leaving Tideswell, we walk westerly for 2 miles then skirt the edge of Monksdale before a steady climb up Wormhill and gentle undulating fields past Flag Dale and the disused Tunstead Limestone quarry. After lunch, the zig-zag path leads into Chee Dale and Monsal Dale by following the River Wye to Millers Dale where we’ll take another break. (Refreshments/toilets available). Miller’s Dale grew with the arrival of the Midland Railway in 1867, which linked Manchester with London. It was a busy community at that time, as a junction on the railway line and a centre for limestone quarrying. Line closed in 1970. Passing the quaint Grade 11 listed building of St Anne’s church, there is a steep but short climb out of the dale and more gentle fields towards Tideswell. Several stiles en route.
