Start time: 10:30
Grade: Moderate
Distance: 9.0 miles
Walk description

The walk starts by following familiar tracks along Swinden Lane, before crossing the A628 and following part of the Barnsley Boundary Walk along the Snow Road. This moorland track ascends gradually for about 1.50 miles, running parallel to the Woodhead Pass. We then descend across Thurlstone Moor towards Upper Windleden Reservoir, where there is a lovely view towards Winscar Reservoir and the surrounding countryside. This moorland section is moderate terrain, but can be boggy for short distances depending on weather conditions.

After lunch we join the Trans Pennine Trail at Dunford Bridge, walking past Wogden Foot Meadow (nature reserve adjacent to the Upper River Don). We follow the TPT for about 2 miles to Cote Bank Bridge, before heading south on the edge of the moor, back towards Flouch. The second half of the walk is easy on established tracks and paths.
