This walk starts from Thurgoland and passes through Silkstone Common, Silkstone and Oxspring. It uses field paths, wide tracks and the Trans Pennine Trail. There are several stiles on the walk mainly in the first half. Although this walk comes in at a distance of 10 miles there are no steep sections, all ascents/descents are gradual.
From Thurgoland we take field paths to descend to Berry Moor. From here we have a steady ascent into Silkstone Common diverting a short distance off the road to visit a memorial to children who lost their lives in a Victorian mining disaster. Descending then into Silkstone and passing the Pot House Hamlet where we can use facilities if needed. (May also take lunch here depending on the time that we are passing). From Pot House we leave Silkstone via field paths, and eventually cross the busy A628 road (care needed). From here its a gradual ascent before we descend into Oxspring. Picking up the Trans Pennine Trail to Huthwaite Hall where we make our final gentle ascent back to Thurgoland and the cars.
