Starting from Brockholes Railway Station, we walk down Brockholes Lane to the A616 road and cross into Hagg Wood. Climbing gradually we reach the 14th century village of Netherthong. Walking through Netherthong on asphalted paths we pick up a footpath that takes us to Upperthong through fields and unmade tracks. There are extensive views on our approach to Upperthong. Walking through the village we then descend by an unmade track (with views of Castle Hill and Emley Moor) into Holmfirth. We will have a lunch stop in Holmfirth.
After lunch there is a climb to reach paths that takes us to Thongsbridge. There is then a short section adjacent to New Mill Dyke before we ascend above Thongsbridge. The end of the walk finishes with a descent back to Brockholes and our cars.
This walk is on good man-made paths, unmade tracks and fields. The route contains rural, woodland and urban areas. Some paths are narrow or a little overgrown in places but the entire route is easily passable with a little care.
Approximately 5 hours including lunch.
