Walk description

Leaving the Strafford Arms we go towards the Dove Valley Trail and take a lesser footpath which edges along Lowe Wood, gently climbing in a South-westerly direction. We cross a disused narrow gauge railway track up to Failthwaite Bottoms before entering Bagger Wood. Reaching Bagger Wood Farm we join the Thurgoland Boundary Walk for the descent alongside woodlands and across fields to the village of Crane Moor.

After passing Cliffe Farm we cross Crane Moor Dike to continue through Broom Royd Wood and Ivas Wood to Queen Anne’s Obelisk, and on past Stafford House to return to our starting point.

This is a moderate walk of approximately 7 miles, through woodlands and over open farmland. There are a number of stiles and it can be muddy in places. It will take around 3 – 3.5 hours plus lunch stop.
