The walk offers different views of the Emley Moor masts and panoramic views of the surrounding area from Emley and the masts. There are several stiles on the walk most are easy but a few need a little more care. Starting from the car park in Scissett, we walk up a road called Pennine Way to reach a track that takes us to Skelmanthorpe.
Taking a right turn we go under the Kirkless light railway, to then climb steadily on tracks and field paths to reach Roydhouse. From Roydhouse we climb more steeply by the road to reach Emley Moor Masts. There is a grass track and pavement on this section of the road. Stopping at the masts we’ll take a drinks and snack break.
Carrying on we pickup another unmade track then a last section of road walk for approximately 1/3 mile (no pavements on this section, so advise walking single file). Leaving the road we then enter field paths across Flockton Moor. Continuing on traffic free wide tracks we enter the village of Emley where we will stop for lunch approximately 1-1:30 pm. After lunch we descend from Emley by field paths to reach Scissett and our car park.
The scheduled lunch stop might be a little later than normal i.e. after 1pm worth waiting for though! You may want to have a “biting on” at Emley Moor drinks stop.
