Start time: 11:00
Grade: Moderate
Distance: 8.0 miles
Walk description

We set off from the Black Lion Inn, pass St Martin’s Church and cross farmland, formerly the site of RAF Firbeck, a private airfield commissioned for use by the RAF between 1940 and 1948. We soon reach the impressive ruins of Roche Abbey, former home of 12th century Cistercian monks, which is set in a valley subsequently landscaped by Capability Brown.

The walk continues uphill through King’s Wood and we approach the village of Laughton-en-le Morthen guided by the spire of All Saints’ Church which dominates the horizon. Leaving Laughton we pass the now-redundant Church of St. John at Throapham to return across open farmland to Firbeck.
