Walk description

Leaving the car park we walk a short distance along the Trans-Pennine Trail and descend to cross the River Don at Willow Bridge, believed to have been constructed around 1734.
We continue uphill along Holly Lane, part of the old Pack Horse route between Bradfield and Wakefield, to reach the A629 Sheffield to Huddersfield road.
We then cross open fields towards Hoylandswaine and join a farm track leading to Delf Wood. Our walk continues through fields, Vicar Wood and Lindley Wood to Blackergreen Lane and Maggot Lane, farm tracks which take us towards the Travellers Inn at Four Lane Ends. We return down Bower Hill and cross the old road bridge beside Bower Dell picnic area and nature reserve to return to our starting point and a debrief at the nearby Waggon and Horses.

This walk will take approximately 3 – 3.5 hours plus lunch stop.
