From the Travellers Inn we walk for a short distance beside the A629 before crossing farmland, enjoying extensive views across to Penistone Church, Royd Moor wind farm, Stainborough, Barnsley and Emley Moor.

We continue along High Royd Lane to reach the village of Hoylandswaine where we will make a slight detour to see the old Nail Making Forge, with its ornamental gate in the design of nails.

We pass beside the village bowling green and through fields to reach Cooper Lane, Whin Moor Lane and cross Pye Flatts meadows.

We then join a footpath leading to Gloria’s Wood and zigzag steeply through Lindley Wood, to reach Lower Coates Farm and an uphill farm track back to our starting point.

This is a 6.5 / 7 mile moderate walk along field and woodland paths and includes a number of stiles. It will take around 3.5 hours including lunch stop.
