We start from the lovely village of Youlgreave, following the River Bradford upstream before a steady ascent of about 200 metres up to Long Rake. The path levels out as we cross fields for extensive views, typical of the White Peak.
There is a short steep descent down stone steps into Cales Dale, where the path is uneven to start with. We then walk along the lovely Lathkill Dale beside the river, following well laid footpaths and tracks to Alport.
We then pick up a flat path, following the River Bradford again, with a steady road ascent back to Youlgreave.
It is also possible to take a short cut back to Youlgreave, reducing the distance to about 6 miles.
At the end of the walk, there will be time to view and admire the skill and craftsmanship of the 7 Youlgreave Well Dressings. For more information please visit: www.youlgravewelldressers.co.uk or www.welldressing.com
This is a walk of 9 miles and will take about 4.5 – 5 hours.
