From Langsett Barn we make our way across Langsett Reservoir dam wall and take a footpath through Cliff Wood and down to the banks of the River Porter or Little Don. At Hagg Bridge we take a footpath and climb to the woodland of Edge Cliff, before descending to Mortimer Road. After a short section of road along Gill Royd Lane we head south across access land at Barnside Moor to arrive at Ewden Height (site of WWII targets). Visibility permitting, we should have wonderful views across Broomhead Moor and Pike Lowe.
Heading east along Thorpe’s Brow we have a short ascent through woodland to arrive at Whitwell Moor, before descending past Wind Hill Farm and Brooks Bank to arrive at Underbank Reservoir where we will stop for lunch.
After lunch we head east along the southern bank of Underbank Reservoir, cross the dam wall and the busy A616 road, and disappear into Sheephouse Wood to join the well hidden and now dismantled railway that served the construction of Langsett Reservoir. Following the old railway line we pass by Midhopestones crossroads, Hand Bank and Uskers, returning eventually to our start point at Langsett Barn.
