Walk description

We walk uphill from the car park and follow footpaths leading to Hamper Lane, Little Royd Farm and on to Cat Hill, from where we have excellent views of the Gunthwaite valley. We continue downhill via Cat Hill Foot to reach Gunthwaite Dam and walk up the Causey, part of an old packhorse trail, to Gunthwaite Hall and its 16th century half-timbered barn.

We reach the village of Upper Denby and join a bridleway to walk beside Clough Dike through Swift Wood and across fields to the outskirts of Ingbirchworth, from where we take a footpath along the eastern bank of Scout Dike Reservoir.

We return over paths and fields to Cat Hill and retrace our steps back to the Rose and Crown for refreshments.

The walk will take around 4 hours plus lunch stop.
