Leaving Flouch car park we take a track through Swinden and join Hordron Road until Upper Hordron. Following Long Moor Edge, we pass grouse butts, and as the track gradually disappears, cross what can sometimes be a very boggy Stone Rucks Moss. We cross the busy A628 Woodhead Road and head west along a short section of the Snow Road until we reach Fiddlers Green. Here we head north along Woodland Clough, passing Upper Windleden Reservoir and arrive at Windle Edge. A short section of road walking takes us to Winscar Reservoir where we will stop for lunch.
From Winscar Reservoir we take a path across Broad Hill Bank and after another short section of road pass through the hamlet of Townhead (formerly railway cottages for the now dismantled railway at nearby Dunford Bridge, and now a commune). We take a footpath across fields towards Carlecotes where after another short section of road we pass a rather well hidden gem that is Saint Anne’s Church, Carlecotes.
From Carlecotes we descend across fields to Soughley where we cross the River Don by way of a footbridge before ascending to pass over the Trans Pennine Trail at Cote Bank Bridge. We follow the path and track to Swinden Walls where once again we cross the A628 and return to the Flouch car park.
