This walk starts with a flat path to Leadmill Bridge, where we start to climb gradually and then steeply past Hoghall. The route levels out for a while, as we follow an undulating track to Stoke Ford, where it can be very muddy. From here there is a steady ascent to the edge of Offerton Moor, where it levels out towards Shatton Moor, for the splendid views that the Hope Valley offers. (Lunch here weather permitting).
The first half of the walk is predominantly uphill, followed by a downward second half, following rough tracks to Offerton Hall, through Callow Wood and down to the banks of the River Derwent, and a flat return to Hathersage.
This walk serves up a real treat of panoramic views for only a moderate amount of effort, although this might be more strenuous depending on the amount of rainfall, when mud will be guaranteed on the lower sections. There are about 20 stiles and/or gates on this route.
It will take about 4.5 hours, with lunch stop.
