Leaving Hope Station by the footbridge we ascend gradually up field paths, that takes us to the pretty village of Thornhill. From here we descend to Hope Garden Centre, where we have to cross a busy ‘A’ road to pick up a path that runs at the side of the River Derwent. We climb from the river up to Offerton Hall to reach Offerton Moor with super views over Hope Valley, this is a steep ascent so we will take our time going up it. The ascent is more gradual from here up to Shatton Mast itself. Once at Shatton Mast the route levels out. Lunch will be taken after the mast depending on time. We continue on an unmade track before turning right back down toward Brough and the Travellers Rest (for a well earned drink and debrief, optional) before continuing back to the cars.
This walk starts from Hope Station Car Park. We are on field paths, unmade tracks, and some quiet country lanes for the entirety of this walk, there are just a few easily negotiated stiles.
