View from Gipsy Bank
Wolfscote Dale from Gipsy Bank, Derbyshire
Date: Sunday, 14th July 2024
Start time: 10:15
Grade: Moderate / Strenuous
Distance: 8.0 miles
Walk description

The walk leaves Hartington through fields and meadows to enter Staffordshire near Banktop for lovely views of the surrounding countryside. We descend through The Raikes to follow more fields towards Narrowdale. Watch out for the stone bull! There is steepish ascent by Narrowdale Hill on a grassy track for more excellent views. We follow the hillside around towards Gypsy Bank (lunch stop) where the path descends very steeply (narrow steps) into Wolfscote Dale.
We then walk along the banks of the River Dove upstream through the dale where it joins Bersford Dale and a final ascent through fields to Hartington.

Remember this is White Peak country so there are many walls to negotiate mainly through gates, but also squeeze stiles and a few stone stiles.
