Date: Saturday, 26th March 2022
Start time: 10:15
Grade: Moderate
Distance: 7.0 miles
Walk description
The first part of the walk is along the riverside path next to the River Derwent, passing the restored Calver Mill, where some filming was done for the television series Colditz. Our route takes us through the pretty Horse Hay Coppice and Froggatt Wood, before the stiff climb up to Froggatt/Curbar Edge. The steep uphill slog is worth it for the spectacular views that we are all familiar with, and our lunch break will be taken at a convenient spot along here. From Curbar Gap we will make our descent, firstly through field paths, and then, unavoidably, on the road with no pavements. It is vital at this point we walk single file, keeping safely to the side.
