View of Abney Low from Bretton Clough
Abney Low from Bretton Clough, Bretton, Derbyshire
Date: Sunday, 21st November 2021
Start time: 09:45
Grade: Moderate
Distance: 10.0 miles
Walk description

From the car park we drop down into the village and follow the valley through fields into the pretty village of Foolow. There are quite a few stiles on this stretch (but most of them squeeze stiles), also gates. More field paths take us through Grindlow, Great Hucklow and then our first uphill through woods. We soon reach a path which leads us across Abney Moor, stopping at a convenient place for lunch.

Dropping down to Stoke Ford to cross Bretton Brook we then have a long, but not too steep, uphill to pass Jubilee Plantation (three steepish stiles on this stretch) then a short section of road walking to enter woodland. Please note: this path is steep in parts and great care is needed as there are a lot of loose stones.
