The walk traverses two broad ridges that form the high ground around Ladybower Reservoir. From the car park we follow the road around to the Ashopton viaduct, before starting a steady ascent towards the twin summits of Crook Hill (1253ft). This has only been accessible to walkers since 2004. Look out for a small Bronze Age Stone Circle in this vicinity.
From here we proceed along the ridge contour, on grassy tracks, before descending steeply towards Hagg Farm on a rough stony track to cross the A57 and the River Ashop. We then ascend steeply for short sections up through a conifer plantation to emerge near Hope Cross for wonderful views down Edale.
We then follow the course of a Roman Road for a short distance, before going along the ridge path for about 2 miles ascending gradually towards the summit of Win Hill (1516ft). From the summit the views stretch out in all directions.
It is all downhill from here, through woodland and back to our starting point, via the Yorkshire Bridge Inn for a well earned drink.
Please note: The two peaks of Crook Hill are short and steep but can be easily avoided, by keeping to the lower path.
