Leaving the car park we follow the path through Ayton Wood to emerge by Crane Moor Chapel and pass the former Rock Inn, now a private dwelling. Crossing over the lane we pass through Tom Royd Wood, and go over fields and along farm tracks to Dodworth Moor End and into Nether Royd Wood. We join the Dove Valley Trail to Silkstone Common and on to Four Lane End.

We walk down Bower Hill towards Oxspring and join the riverside path to Thurgoland Bridge. Continuing past Cheese Bottom Farm and through woodland and fields we reach Thurgoland village, from where we cross farmland back to our starting point and a welcome drink.

This is a 7.5 mile moderate walk along field, woodland and riverside paths, and includes a number of stiles. It will take around 3.5 hours including lunch stop.
