This is a predominantly flat walk (no stiles) through the National Trust Clumber Park Estate, taking us through woodland and grassland areas, before we drop down to Clumber Lake, which is alive with flocks of geese, swans, various ducks and other wildfowl. We proceed up and around the Walled Garden and the wonderful, fairly recently restored greenhouse and orangery. We wander past the cricket pitch back to the visitors centre for the facilities and lunch depending on the weather.
From here we follow lakeside paths to Carburton Bridge, and a lovely view across the lake towards the impressive chapel. We continue around the lake to Hardwick Village with its impressive buildings, before a return to the starting point.
The soil here is light, sandy, well drained and mud free, so if you want to keep your boots clean this walk might appeal to you!!
Directions to start
From Sheffield proceed all the way along the A57 to the roundabout with the A1. Turn right here just before the A1, along the A614. After about half a mile, park in the lay-by on right hand side.
