From Dore Station we walk uphill for a short distance crossing Beauchief golf course, and passing Beauchief Hall and the Abbey remains. We continue along Abbey Lane to Millhouses Park. We then follow the River Sheaf trail through the park and past Tesco to come onto Archer Road. We continue to follow the Sheaf as the route becomes more urbanised. The route then moves away from the river as we go through Heeley Millenium Park and past Heeley City Farm. There is then about half a mile of street walking as we walk towards Queens Tower and Norfolk Park and onto the Cholera Monument and views of the city above Midland Station.
The route concludes by walking through the station and up to the city centre to finish at Mama’s & Leonies for the meal at 3pm.
N.B. I suggest we stop for about 10 minutes in Millhouses Park to have a quick snack and drink to sustain us for the walk. This will be after about 2 miles – about 11.30am.
This is a linear walk of 8 miles and will take about 5 hours to complete, including travelling time and snack etc. Allow extra time for the meal of course (details below).
I will leave it with you to decide your best mode of transport to get to Sheffield Station to meet by 10am. Train Departs Sheffield Station 10.14am. Arrive Dore 10.21am. G & T will use the Park & Ride at Meadowhall and travel to Sheffield Station by train for example. Depending on where you live, you might find it more convenient to catch the 97 or 98 bus to Dore Station, in which case you need to ensure it arrives by 10.21am to meet the train.
Single fare with Railcard £1.15. Without £1.80.
