We start by ascending very gradually to Spring House Farm, before going downhill to cross the Edale road and the River Noe. We go past the cemetery ascending uphill to Aston Hall, where there are lovely views of the Hope Valley and Bamford Edge. (Lunch). After lunch we descend quite steeply to the flat fields that lead to Bamford Mill to cross the River Derwent by the bridge and stepping stones. We walk uphill past old cottages to the centre of Bamford and follow Joan Lane and Saltergate Lane back to the Bus Turnaround.
This is a linear walk of 6.25 miles and will take about 3.5 hours with lunch.
We will meet at Bamford Bus Turnaround to get the 10.31am bus to Castleton. We will aim to start the walk itself about 11.10am from the main car park in Castleton after allowing time to use the facilities etc. There are good views of the Hope Valley and surrounding hills throughout the walk. The route follows wide farm tracks, minor roads and short stretches on narrow paths with only a few stiles.
