Starting from Ashenhurst on the outskirts of Huddersfield we first enter Longley Wood Nature Reserve where the bluebells should be spectacular at the time of this walk. Leaving the wood we walk a little way on a road before entering further woodland and field paths to take us up Castle Hill. We will pause here for a few minutes to take in the views. Descending Castle Hill there is a gentle incline to reach the village of Farnley Tyas where we will take lunch. From Farnley Tyas it is descent to reach Almondbury Common, after which there is a last ascent of the walk to reach Almondbury Cricket Club. From here we start the descent back to the start point of the walk.
This walk starts from the North side of Castle Hill and takes us up to Victoria Tower and through Farnley Tyas. The walk is on woodland and field paths with very little road walking involved. There are several stiles on the walk and some of the paths may be boggy and or muddy. There are good 360 views at various stages of the walk towards, Emley Moor mast and Castle Hill itself.
