The route takes us from Brockholes to Honley through Hagg Wood. We walk through Honley itself then uphill to Clitheroe Woods. We turn left across fields with several squeeze gates (there are extensive views of Honley and beyond) to reach Netherthong. We continue uphill to reach Upperthong then turn downhill into Holmfirth.
If anyone hasn’t seen Nora Batty’s house from the “Last of the Summer Wine” series we can visit that in Holmfirth. I intend to give everyone a 15 minute break in Holmfirth to grab a drink then meet back at Sid’s cafe for the tough ascent out of Holmfirth.
At the top of the ascent (the last of the hills) I will have another short stop to let everyone recover and admire the view over Holmfirth. We then continue on the flat to Town End then a descent into Thongsbridge. We then head towards Hagg Wood and Brockholes and the cars.
This is a strenuous walk of about 10 ½ miles. The paths are generally good throughout with one narrow stream to negotiate, the walk undulates throughout and there is a very strenuous climb out of Holmfirth.
Approx 5 hours including lunch break and a 15 minutes break in Holmfirth.
