Whitwell Moor from Canyards
Date: Sunday, 22nd September 2019
Start time: 10:30
Grade: Moderate
Distance: 7.5 miles
Walk description

We will take footpaths from Low Bradfield up to the Church at High Bradfield. We then continue on footpaths passed Bailey Hill – an ancient motte-and-bailey castle – and across Rocher Head – an outcrop of rocks. We then continue across White Lee Moor and follow paths and lanes around the Canyard Hills.

We then pass by Bar Dyke – a 492 yards long trench with a rampart on its southern side which is 10 feet high in places. The dyke is believed to have marked the boundary between different Dark Ages tribes in the period following the withdrawal of The Romans from Britain. From here the walk is ‘all downhill’ – dropping down to the side of the Agden Reservoir – walking around the northern and eastern side and back to our starting point.

A 7.5 mile walk which is moderate in severity.
