River Derwent at Bamford Mill, Bamford, Derbyshire
Date: Sunday, 13th June 2021
Start time: 10:00
Grade: Moderate
Distance: 9.0 miles
Walk description

From Carr Lane car park, the path leads along the Derwent Valley Heritage Way for ¼ mile before we turn off towards the sturdy stepping stones of Bamford Mill. Look out for mosaics made by Bamford’s residents and schoolchildren.

After crossing the busy A6013, we pass Bamford Water Treatment Plant and have a steady climb to the south eastern end of Bamford Edge. On a clear day there are fine views overlooking the Derwent Valley and Ladybower Reservoir.

After lunch, we head downhill to cross the dam wall. A path takes us on a steady climb to traverse Win Hill where we cross Parkin Clough and aim for Aston. From there, it’s another mile back to the cars. Several stiles en route.
