Sheffield Walkers are committed to offering a wide range of walks from various locations to suit the needs of diverse groups of people. All of our walks are walked at a leisurely pace. We have a voluntary team of dedicated Walk Leaders who use their knowledge and experience to provide the very best walking experience possible.
We have members of all ages and abilities, but all must have a level of fitness to meet the needs of the type and length of the walk that a member chooses to join. They must also have appropriate clothing and footwear suitable for every walk that they join.
We always finish our walks in a pub, where we enjoy a cup of coffee, or maybe even a beer, with chats and lots of laughs.
Our Walk Programme
Wednesday Walks: These take place every Wednesday and are very easy walks, generally around the Chapeltown area of Sheffield but, occasionally we start from different points to give greater variety to our walks. These walks are approximately 4 miles in length, taking approximately 2 hours.
Thursday Walks: These take place fortnightly and are 5-7 miles in length and are of an easy / moderate level of difficulty.
Thursday Evening Walks: These take place fortnightly, but only in the summer months. They are up to 5 miles in length, dependent on the available light and are of an easy / moderate level of difficulty.
Saturday Walks: These take place fortnightly and are 5-7 miles in length and are of an easy / moderate level of difficulty.
Sunday Walks: These take place every Sunday. We have a moderate walk one Sunday of 8-12 miles in length and the following Sunday a strenuous walk of 8-12 miles in length, which is normally over more challenging terrain. On the Sunday when we have a strenuous walk we also have an additional easy / moderate walk of 5-7 miles in length.
Please note: The grade / difficulty of a walk i.e. 'easy', 'easy / moderate', 'moderate', 'moderate / strenuous', 'strenuous' refer to the terrain of a walk, not the length of a walk.
Additional Information
Please bring a packed lunch and drink with you on all walks except Wednesdays.
- For everyone's safety, you must wear suitable weather-appropriate walking shoes/boots and clothing.
- Weather can be changeable. Always carry a waterproof (as well as hat, gloves and change of socks) if the situation dictates.
- Carry enough food and liquid for the duration of the walk.
Please do NOT walk in front of the Walk Leader and always inform him / her, or the Back Marker, if you wish to leave the walk.
Please note: New walkers can join any easy or moderate walk for their first walk with us, but NOT a STRENUOUS WALK. Once they have walked with us all walks are open for them to join.
Dogs on walks: Dogs are welcome on walks but members bringing a dog on a walk will be responsible for the dog's behaviour at all times. They must ensure that the dog is always on a short lead unless threatened by livestock, as stated in the Countryside Code. The Walk Leader may deem the walk to be unsuitable for dogs in which case, they will not be allowed to attend.
